LATE MR. J. F. BURGE, BRIDGWATER

RAILWAYMEN AS BEARERS

Fellow employees at the G.W.R. station were the bearers at the funeral on Thursday of Mr. Joshua Francis (Harry) BURGE, of 42, Parkstone-avenue, who died at the Hospital on Saturday after having been ill for about ten weeks. The elder son of Mr J. H. BURGE verger of St. Mary's Church, the late Mr. BURGE, who was only 32, was discharged from the Army last November after having served since the outbreak of war. He had since been employed by the G.W.R. Co. He leaves a wife and a son, aged five years.

The deep sympathy felt with the bereaved family was shown by the large attendance and many floral tributes, the latter numbering 60. There was a choral service in St. Mary's Church, conducted by the Vicar, Preb. E. H. HUGHES-DAVIES, assisted by the Rev C. N. HOWELL, Curate. Appropriate voluntaries were played by the organist, Mr. W. RAINS. Hymns “Let Saints on earth” and “For ever with the Lord” were sung and psalm 23 chanted. The interment was at the Wembdon-road cemetery.

The mourners were: Mrs. BURGE (wife), Mr. J. H. BURGE (father), Mr. and Mrs. W. J. CULVERWELL (father-in-law and mother-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. LEACH (brother-in-law and sister), Mrs. C. CHEATLE, Mrs. GAY (sisters), Mrs. J. H. BURGE (sister-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. W. FRAMPTON (brother-in-law and sister), Mrs MACEY, Mrs. T. MULLINS (aunt), Mr. and Mrs. S. CULVERWELL (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr. R. CULVERWELL (brother-in-law), Miss BROOM, Mrs. JEFFERIES and Mr. Donald TEMPLEMAN (friends), Mr. J. H. BURGE (brother), Miss Irene CULVERWELL (sister-in-law), Messrs. R. CULVERWELL, C. CHEATLE and H. GAY (brothers-in-law) were unable to be present owing to being with the Forces. Among those also present were: Messrs. S. A. HUGGINS and C. T. GREEN (churchwardens), E. F. CAWSE (G.W.R. Stationmaster) F. WILLS and others.

The bearers were Messrs, DUCK, LEGG, BROWN and CRIDLAND.
