FOUR GENERATIONS: ONE EMPLOYER
NORTH PETHERTON FAMILY'S RECORD
Four generations of the same family – a man, his son, grandson, and great-grandson – have all worked for the same employer at North Petherton.
The
employer is Mr. John SLOCOMBE, who last week celebrated his 90th
birthday, and the employees the late Mr. Jasper LAVIS; his son,
William; his grandson, Reginald; and great-grandson, Frederick.
The
longest record of service by the family was set up by William, who is
aged 81. He started work at the age of nine, and worked 56 years for
Mr. SLOCOMBE. William's son, Reginald, has been in the employ of Mr.
SLOCOMBE since before 1914, with the exception of the time he served
in the Forces in the last war. His son, Frederick was the fourth
generation of the LAVIS family to work for Mr. SLOCOMBE, but he is
now employed on Mr. SLOCOMBE's son-in-law's farm, also at North
Petherton.
