ROAD FATALITY AT WESTPORT

INQUEST VERDICT

On Tuesday the inquest was resumed at the Westport Inn by the Deputy Coroner (Mr P. HANCOCK) on Mrs. Sarah Jane BOND, widow, of “Fernlea,” Barrington, who was killed on the main Ilminster-Langport road at Westport on February 1st, as a result of being run into by a motor-car driven by Mr. Henry Meredith NEWMAN, of Westport.

Deceased was walking on the right-hand side of the road going towards Westport, in company with a friend, Mrs. Emma Jane MALE, of Barrington, and they were going to visit a friend at Westport.

After hearing the evidence, the Coroner returned a verdict that death was due to a fractured skull, caused by being knocked down by a motor-car negligently driven by NEWMAN, but such negligence did not amount to criminal negligence.

Deceased's relatives were represented by Mr. R. W. YOUNG (Taunton), and the motorist by Mr. J. DUKE (Ilminster).
