FUNERAL OF LIEUT. ARTHUR G. QUICK

VICTIM OF SOMERSET 'PLANE CRASH

Much sympathy has been expressed with ex-Sergt.-Major and Mrs. QUICK, of “Kildare,” North Petherton, in the great loss they have sustained by the death of their youngest son, Lieut. Arthur George QUICK, who was killed in the recent place crash on the Blackdown Hills. Lieut. QUICK was returning to the Far East after having been home on leave. He served at a trooper in the Royal Horse Guards prior to the war and afterwards left the regiment to take up a position in the Civil Service at Taunton Post-office. At the commencement of hostilities he joined the Royal Corps of Signals and served in France and Belgium. He was one of? the last to be evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk. When recommended for a commission Lieut. QUICK volunteered for service with the Indian Army and was posted to the Punjabi Regiment, Northern India. Throughout the Burma campaign he served with the Indian Corps of Signals, being attached to the 14th Army.

MILITARY HONOURS.

The funeral took place at North Petherton on Tuesday, and the high esteem in which Lieut. QUICK was held was manifested by the large number of friends who attended the service at St. Mary Church, conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. J. ADDY, assisted by the Deputy Assistant Chaplain-General, Western Command, Lieut.-Colonel the Rev. W. H. KING, M.C., who also represented Major-General M.E. DENNIS M.C., C.B.E., D.S.O. The coffin was draped with the Union Jack.

Under the command of Lieut. W. E. HOLLAND, Royal Indian Army Service Corps, a contingent representative of several Army units formed a guard of honour as the cortege entered the church. Mr. W. HUMPHREYS was at the organ and the choir led the singing of the hymns chosen. “Thy way, not mine, O Lord.” and “Nearer, my God, to Thee,” and the 23rd Psalm. Ex-Corporal F. W. WEBBER sounded “Last Post” and “Reveille” at the graveside.

The family mourners were Mr. and Mrs. A. QUICK, father and mother; Mr. and Mrs. H. D. QUICK, brother and sister-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. S. SMITH, brother-in-law and sister; Mr. and Mrs. A. QUICK, Mr. and Mrs. W. QUICK, Mr. and Mrs. J. QUICK, Mr. and Mrs. W. CONIBERE, uncles and aunts; Mr. A. QUICK, Mr. A. J. QUICK, Miss GROVES, Mr. and Mrs. B. STONE, Miss M. CONIBERE, Mr. and Mrs. P. KNIGHT, Mr. T. BROWN, cousins; Mrs. PAYNE and Madge and Mr. G. EVETT.
