NO STOCK MARKET AT TAUNTON TO-DAY

FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE RESTRICTION

There will be no stock markets at Taunton to-day (Saturday), owing to foot-and-mouth disease restrictions.

An outbreak occurred on Thursday, January 10th, at Little Broughton Farm, Stoke St. Mary, among pigs belonging to Captain Gordon GREGORY.

The entire herd of 67 pigs was slaughtered, but it was not found necessary to kill any of the dairy cows or other cattle on the farm.

As there was no extension of the original outbreak, it did not interfere with the plans for Taunton races on Thursday, but the meeting was abandoned owing to the severe frost. The racecourse at Orchard Portman is about 200 yards from the periphery of Little Broughton Farm.

The existing restrictions within a 15-mile radius are likely to be continued for at least another week.
