THEY SENT HIM NO FORMS!

Lieut.-Commander C. W. HALFHIDE, of Barrington, denied at Yeovil Borough Sessions that he was liable for payment of £36 5s income tax and £3 6s 5d war damage contribution. The Collector of Taxes, Mr. POOLE, claimed that the money was due in respect of defendant's ownership of land since 1944, but Lieut.-Commander HALFHIDE said the land was let to a tenant farmer.

Mr. POOLE said he was unaware that it was being let.

Defendant: You sent me no forms to fill up. It's your job to find these things out.

Mr. POOLE: We don't run a secret service in spite of what the papers say.

The Bench made an order for the war damage contribution to be paid, but adjourned the income-tax summons until October for further enquiries.
