Married 60 Years Ago

Former Taunton Couple

Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. CANNICOTT of Roundwell, South Petherton, and who for nearly 40 years lived at Taunton, celebrate the 60th anniversary of their wedding on Saturday.

They were married at Bridport Methodist Church by the late Rev. Richard FLETCHER, on Feb. 15th, 1887. Mr. Charles Priddle CANNICOTT was born at Hele, South Petherton, and was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas CANNICOTT. Mrs. CANNICOTT was the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George HALLETT, of South-street Bridport.

While living in South Petherton, Mr. CANNICOTT assisted in the building of the Coke Memorial Chapel and Coke Villa. He was also choirmaster and an active member of the church. For nearly 40 years they lived at Taunton, and whilst there the School of Art and the Public Library were two of the works on which Mr. CANNICOTT was engaged for Messrs. T. H. Moggridge & Son for whom, in later years, he worked as general manager.

Both Mr. and Mrs. CANNICOTT were interested and active members of the Victoria Methodist Chapel and among the offices held by Mr. CANNICOTT was Society steward, class leader, Morning School superintendent and choirmaster.

There are six children living, one having died in Taunton Hospital. Of the three sons, one lives at Worcester, another at Taunton, and the third in the Isle of Wight. Of the daughters, one lives at Kingskerswell and one at Dawlish. There are five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One grandson was recently killed in India.

On retirement Mr. and Mrs. CANNICOTT went to Dawlish, where they spent seven years, and while there celebrated their golden wedding. They then returned to South Petherton, their old home, and are hoping to have a family reunion to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their wedding as soon as the weather permits.
