Britain's Oldest Camper?

Mrs. HAWKINS Off to Blue Anchor Again

This week-end 84-years- old Mrs. Amelia HAWKINS, of 27, Eastbourne-road, Taunton, intends to pack up a few things and go off to spend the summer in her caravan at Blue Anchor, as she has done regularly for the past 20 years.

Mrs. HAWKINS, who will be 85 in September, must be one of the oldest campers in the country. She can recall when hers was one of only three caravans at Blue Anchor – now one of the most popular camping spots on the Bristol Channel coast. Mrs. HAWKINS stays by the sea throughout the summer in her caravan, doing all her own cooking and catering.

The widow of Mr. William Henry HAWKINS, coal merchant, of Duke-street, Taunton, she has no need for spectacles, and when she was over 70 she used to bath, even though she could not swim. Recently she travelled alone to Southampton to welcome her great-niece, a G.I. Bride (formerly Miss PAYNE, of Glastonbury), who is visiting this country on holiday.
