HOME MISSIONS

On home missionary Sunday at the Methodist Church the morning service was conducted by Rev. F. E. WALKER and the evening service by Mr. J. LAZARUS, of Taunton.

At the annual meeting in the School on the following Wednesday, an address was given by Rev. L. BABB (Taunton) and Mr. S. VEYSEY (Taunton) presided.

Collections and subscriptions for the home mission funds amounted to £13 6s 6d.

GARAGE FIRE CAUSED HEAVY DAMAGE

When paraffin caught alight at Foster's Garage, North Curry, on Friday, the garage and most of the contents were destroyed. The damage was estimated at thousands of pounds. Taunton firemen checked the fire from spreading to adjoining cottages. Neighbours, led by P.C. BARRETT and P.C. WESTCOTT, dragged plancs [sic] and heavy furniture from threatened cottages, while others threw bedding from bedroom windows into the street. Soon the village square was cluttered with salvaged bicycle tyres, furniture and children's games.
