More Parish Council Elections

Wellington Rural Area Vacancies

Insufficient valid nominations for last month's election of Parish Councils in Wellington rural district have resulted in fresh notices of election being issued for five parishes.

There will be contests at Oake and Wiveliscombe Without, but at Wellington Without and Sampford Arundel, where there is only one nomination for one seat, the candidates will be returned unopposed. At Chipstable, no nominations have been received to fill the one remaining vacancy, and a fresh notice of election will have to be issued.

Nominations received are:-

Oake (four seats) – Richard S. J. BISHOP, Hillfarrance, local government officer; Henry R. DAVIES, Hillfarrance Vicarage, clerk in holy orders; Albert R. LANE, Oake-close, ambulance driver-attendant; Charles H. TARR, Stones Farm, Oake, small-holder; William J. R. THOMAS, Hillfarrance, carpenter and joiner.

Wiveliscombe Without (two seats) – Edgar C. BROWN, Whitefield, farmer; Henry J. THOMAS, Heathstock, farmer; James R. D. WYATT, Croford, farmer.

Polling will take place on June 27th.

Wellington Without (one seat) – Montie CHANIN, Pleamore Cross, farmer.

Sampford Arundel (one seat) – Charles KNOWLES, Beam Bridge, licensed victualler.
