WEST BUCKLAND

BEST LAUNDERED SHIRT

West Buckland Women's Institute, Mrs. Lloyd FOX presiding, decided to attend the carol service at Bath Abbey in December. The hope was expressed that the Guild of Learners would hold classes at Gerbestone Manor during the autumn. Drama classes will start in the new year.

Miss GREED gave a demonstration of recovering an eiderdown.

The month's competition was for the best laundered man's shirt. Result:- 1. Mrs STEVENS; 2. Mrs. FITZGERALD; equal 3. Mrs. TOOZE and Mrs. PERRY

ST. MARY'S WEDDING

The wedding has taken place at St. Mary's Church, West Buckland, of Mr. Eric Stanley Bruce OATEN, only son of Mr. and Mrs. S. O. OATEN, of Valetta Glenthorne-road, Taunton, and Miss Mary Madeline WALL, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. WALL, of Hockaller, West Buckland. The Vicar, Preb. J. H. D. GRANTER, officited. <sic>

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a classical dress with train of white watermarked taffeta, and full-length embroidered veil, held in place by a coronet of orange blossom and myrtle.

Bridesmaids were Miss Eva PARSONS (bride's cousin), Miss Avril BURRELL (cousin of the bridegroom), Miss Thelma PARSONS and little Leslie LOCK (cousins of the bride), Mr Ralph A. STRANGE was best man. Ushers were Mr. C. BOLEY, bridegroom's uncle, and Mr. B. PARSONS, cousin of the bride.

Fifty guests attended a reception.
