Clements & Brown's Drapery Store

Jubilee Special Sales

In February, 1900, three Taunton men started in business with two small shops in Fore-street. They could little have thought that in 50 years their venture would have developed into the well equipped modern departmental drapery store of Clements & Brown. Ltd.

The founders of this business, Mr. S. E. CLEMENTS, Mr. F. W. PRITCHETT BROWN and Mr. P. A. CLEMENTS, have all made valuable contributions to the life of Taunton.

Mr. F. W. PRITCHETT-BROWN an ex-mayor of Taunton, who now runs the business with his son, Mr. Leslie PRITCHETT BROWN, is an alderman of Taunton, as was Mr. P. A. CLEMENTS, who died during the war. The other founder, Mr. S. E. CLEMENTS, is now retired.

SPECIAL SALES AND PARADES

To celebrate the Company's jubilee starting this week, it is intended to feature different departments throughout the store, offering for sale goods which are in short supply.

The first sale is to-day (Saturday), when household furnishings will be featured. March 13th will be the turn of the spring fashions department, and there will be mannequin parades by London models. There will be another anniversary fashion parade on March 16th.

An anniversary dinner for the staff is also to be arranged.

The verandah front of the store, which is to be modernised, is now the only link with the original premises, all of which have been rebuilt and extended. In the past four years the whole interior has been replanned and refitted.

ASSOCIATED FACTORY

Another development has been the Deane Manufacturing Company, a branch of Clements & Brown, Ltd., in Church Square. It was adapted in 1916 to make industrial overalls, and is now a highly specialised factory.

The popularity of the store is shown by the fact that in the past three years the volume of trade has been doubled.
