KINGSBURY EPISCOPI

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

About 200 members and guests were welcomed by the President, Mrs. A. NORRIS, at the Christmas party on Thursday. Mrs. NORRIS particularly welcomed Major-General and Mrs. EVANS, speaking with appreciation of their ready co-operation in local activities, and regretting their coming departure from the parish. Games were arranged by Mrs. A. GILLETT, Miss JEFFERY, Mrs. A. PARRIS and Mrs. L. SPURRIER. A duet was sung by Mrs. DYER and Mrs. A. GILLETT and solos by Mrs. D. WILKIE and Mr. B. JEANES. Refreshments were served by Mrs. W. MALE, Mrs. E. MALE, Miss E. MALE, Mrs A. MALE and Mrs. J. MOUNTER.

After this interval a charade was performed by Kingsbury members and “Cinderella,” a mime with musical accompaniment, by Stembridge members. Members of Langport Women's Institute brought the costume play which they performed so successfully at the recent Drama Festival.

There were ten entrants for the recitation competition, all of whom were awarded ten marks. Prizes for competitions were awarded to:- 1, Mrs. P. EDWARDS (65 marks); 2, Mrs. J. JEANES (45).

The evening closed with the singing of carols round an illuminated Christmas tree.


FUNERAL OF MR. ALBERT LOCK

The funeral took place on Thursday, of Mr. Albert LOCK, of Cox's Farm, who died the previous Monday, aged 74. He was a member of Kingsbury Episcopi Band for 50 years, and a retired farmer. The Rev. E. R. TUXFORD officiated, with Miss BRADFORD at the organ. Family mourners were:- Mr. Gilbert LOCK (brother), Mrs. W. MOUNTER and Mrs. T. MALE (nieces), Messrs. Harold LOCK, Fred LOCK, Percy LOCK, Bert LOCK, Bury LOCK, George LOCK, Herbert LOCK, Sidney LOCK, John LOCK, Philip LOCK (nephews), Mrs. P. LOCK, Mrs. J. LOCK and Tony LOCK, Mr. and Mrs. W. LOCK (brother and sister-in-law), were unable to attend.

Bearers were Messrs. P. SATHERLEY, L. MALE, E. ROGERS and A. STOGELL, and others present included Mrs. PENNY, Mr. H. BOND, Mrs A. NORRIS, Mr. A. MALE, Mr. J. JEANES, Mr. H. W. BOND, Mr. WOODS (representing Messrs Gibbs Bros. and Wood), Mr. SHAPLAND (represent Vincent, Martock), and Mr. S. DUNN.

Floral tributes included a cross from the family at Cox's Farm; and wreaths from Mr. G. LOCK; Mr. and Mrs. W. MOUNER; Mr. and Mrs. P. LOCK and family; Mr. Harold WOOD and family; and Kingsbury Episcopi Band.

Mr and Mrs. W. LOCK and family wish to thank all kind friends for letters of sympathy.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Fry & Dean.
