HOW
DIFFERENT IT LOOKS TO-DAY! - This photograph of The Parade was taken
about 30 years ago, when Taunton's spacious centre and wide streets
were the envy of many towns. Now, almost daily at this time of the
year the Parade area is congested with holiday traffic.
Details of the picture will conjure up memories of the past for old Tauntonians. The Kinglake Memorial in the centre, like the market arcades and coffee bar behind it, has been removed, and the taxi-rank and trees are no more. Parking regulations did not bother the policeman on point duty, and the cyclist was not guilty of ignoring traffic direction signs.
