Death of Mr. T. J. LOCK

Well-Known Curry Rivel Farmer

Mr. Thomas John LOCK, a well-known Curry Rivel farmer, died at his home on Sunday, aged 85. He had farmed at Moortown, Curry Rivel, since 1901.

Mr. LOCK, a member of a farming family, was born at Hilliards, Curry Rivel, in August, 1870. He started farming at Water-street, Curry Rivel, in 1896. He was one of the founders of the Langport branch of the National Farmers' Union and was a past chairman.

A very fine shot, he was one of the oldest past-members of the West Somerset Yeomanry. He was a very good horseman and entertained the Taunton Vale Harriers at Moortown for 54 years. An excellent judge of all stock, he judged horses, cattle and sheep at local shows. Before moving to Moortown he was a churchwarden.

His son, Mr. E. J. LOCK, entered partnership with him in 1922, and took over the business in about 1945, but Mr. LOCK, sen., retained a keen interest in it until about a year before his death. He leaves his son and three daughters.

The funeral took place at Curry Rivel Parish Church on Thursday, being conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. J. H. MAUDE-ROXBY.
