Lorry Was Overturned
Sequel to Crash at Othery
A collision at Townsend cross roads, Othery, in which a Taunton man's lorry was overturned, led to a car driver being fined £25 at Bridgwater County magistrates on Friday for driving without due care and attention.
He was Denis Henry BIGNELL (26), accounts clerk, of 84, De Frene-road, Sydenham, London, who wrote pleading guilty. He added in his letter that it was an error of judgment and that the accident involved him in a loss of £30 on the car.
Inspector L. F. HEWITT said that BIGNELL emerged from the Langport-road and collided with a lorry driven from the Glastonbury direction by Raymond MANUEL, Priory-avenue, Taunton, the lorry being overturned on its side. It was alleged that the cause of the accident was the speed with which the car emerged at the junction.
The Chairman, Mr. G. S. WOODHOUSE, said the Bench felt that a considerable degree of danger was involved in the case.
