Milk From Slot Machine

Drivers pulling in to Dunn's Motors, East-street, Taunton, this week, were surprised to see a large blue machine offering them ice-cold milk for 6d in the slot. The machine – the first to appear in Somerset permanently – has been placed there by local producer-retailer Mr. W. C. SHUTE, of Moor Farm, Taunton.

Mr. SHUTE thinks there is plenty of scope for selling milk to the general public. The difficulty is that with daily household deliveries it is not always possible for housewives to assess their requirements accurately. He believes the milk-vending machine is the answer to this, as it enables the public to buy fresh cold milk at any time.

The machine holds 210 half-pints of milk in waxed cartons. It is possible for it to offer three selections – flavoured milk, an orange drink or plain milk.
