Mrs. CRIDLAND, 102, Voted by Post

Filled In The Paper Herself

Mrs. Mary CRIDLAND, of Milverton, who was 102 on Tuesday, voted by postal ballot in the election. She lives with her widowed daughter.

She fills up her own pension forms and wrote out her voting paper herself. Her hearing is good and she wears glasses only for reading and writing.

She is downstairs for breakfast each morning at 9 o'clock and does not go to bed till 10 p.m.

For fear of falling she seldom goes out, but moves about the house with a stick.

Up at 8 a.m.

Visitors on Tuesday were surprised to find Mrs. CRIDLAND astir at eight o'clock. She had looked forward eagerly to her birthday, and, according to her daughter, would have been up at 5 a.m. - if she had had her way!

She read all her 60 greetings cards and was especially thrilled with a telegram from her son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. F. BRICE, in Florida, and one from a granddaughter in Detroit. Many friends called during the day, bringing flowers and other gifts.

'Half-Dressed' Women

Mrs. CRIDLAND was born at Tolland and has spent all her life in West Somerset. She cannot remember such a wonderful summer as this one and certainly nothing like such extraordinary weather for September and October.

She strongly disapproves of smoking by women, and their fashion of going without stockings. She dislikes their being 'half-dressed,' she says.

She has two sons and five daughters.
