Held Wellington Licence 51 Years
The funeral took place at Wellington on Friday of Mr. Henry John THORNE, of the Eight Bells Inn, High Street, Wellington, who died at Musgrove Park Hospital, aged 74.
Mr. THORNE had held the licence of the Eight Bells for over 51 years, carrying on family associations with the house over five generations. Born at the inn, Mr. THORNE took over the licence from his father in 1908.
A popular landlord, he had been connected with Wellington Rugby Club, and at the beginning of the century was a committee member
He was a past chairman of the Taunton and District Licensed Victuallers' Association. Since 1941 he had been a widower, and he leaves a son, Victor, and a married daughter, Mary, both of whom live at the Eight Bells.
The service was conducted by the Rev. R. J. C. LLOYD (vicar). Family mourners were: Mr. V. J. THORNE (son), Mr. J. PITMAN (nephew), Mr. H. OATEN (brother-in-law), Mr. R. PITMAN (son-in-law), Mr. C. OATEN (brother-in-law), and Mr. F. MOULES (brother-in-law).
