Rating assessment is unjust, Court told

Lack of amenities was a reason put forward by Mrs. Nina PACKWOOD, at a Valuation Court at Curry Rivel ….....(?) (Thursday) in support of her appeal for a reduction in the assessment of £170 gross and £122 rateable on her home at Muchelney Ham, Muchelney.

Mrs. PACKWOOD, who sought a reduction to £70 and £44 respectively, thought her assessment was unjust when compared with local farm houses. When her house was built in 1953 the gross rateable value was £28. Her home was subject to flooding and had no bus service.

The appeal was opposed by the Valuation Officer (Mr. R. A. JONES), who produced rental evidence which, he contended, established that the due allowance had been made for local circumstances.

The assessment was reduced to £160 gross and £114 rateable.
