CHEDDON FITZPAINE.

FATAL ACCIDENT. - On Monday afternoon an inquest was held at Cheddon Fitzpaine, before Mr. W. W. MUNCKTON, on the body of Thomas CRIDLAND, a labourer, of Up-Cheddon, who had died from tetanus on Wednesday morning, the 23rd July. It appeared from the evidence that deceased was at work in Mr. F. ALWAY's quarry at West Monkton, on the 11th July, when a boy named Thomas REED accidentally allowed a stone to fall on deceased's right thumb, smashing it. The deceased had it tended and appeared to be making good progress until Tuesday, when symptoms of tetanus intervened. Dr. PAULIN, of Creech, was sent for in the evening, but he arrived too late to be of any service to the poor fellow, who died, as stated, on Wednesday. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was given.
