POLICE BUSINESS IN TAUNTON.
BOROUGH POLICE-COURT.
WEDNESDAY. - Before the Mayor (Councillor A. E. PERKINS), the ex-Mayor (Alderman W. A. WRENN), and Mr. H. J. BADCOCK.
OBSTRUCTION. - John BURROWS, carter, pleaded guilty to obstructing the road at North Town with a horse and cart on the 29th ult., and he was fined 5s and 5s costs. - Geo. STROUD and Jno. MANNING, carters, were summoned for a like offence in Wood-street on the same date. - Defendants did not appear, but they were represented by Mr. GOVIER, haulier, of Taunton. - The conveyances were left in the street, without any horses attached to them, while the defendants went to dinner. - Fined 2s 6d and costs. - Samuel MITCHELL, in the employ of Mr. E. WINTER, Bridge-street, pleaded guilty to obstructing Wood-street on the 1st inst. by leaving a van in that thoroughfare. - Defendant said he was called away in a hurry, and, although told to do so, the boy neglected to take the van. - Fined 2s 6d and costs, the Mayor remarking that is these small fines did not have the desired effect, such cases would in future be more severely dealt with. - P.C. STEWART stated the facts in the first three cases and P.C. DENNING in the last.
LICENSE TRANSFERS. - The following licenses were transferred:- Bear Inn, Upper High-street, from Sarah DOHERTY to John Edgar SANDERS; Bank Tavern, High-street, from A. IMBER to Sarah DOHERTY; King's Arms, Staplegrove-road, from George AMERY to Louisa AMERY; Four Alls, Corporation-street, from Alfred George NOCK to Henry Kingston NORMAN; Coach and Horses, East Reach, from Charles PRING to William CHICK; Ring of Bells, St. James's-street, from John HORSEY to Albert MORRIS.
TUESDAY. - Before the Mayor (Mr. A. E. PERKINS) and Mr. W. POOLE.
ARREARS. -Walter MORTIFEE, a carter, of Staple Fitzpaine, was charged with non-compliance of a bastardy order made on the 9th October, 1901, in respect of the child of Bessie FROST, of Tancred-street, Taunton, who stated that she had not received any money since the 1st December, and there was now £1 5s owing. - The case was adjourned until Wednesday week to give the defendant time to pay the arrears.
