PRESENTATION TO MR. T. M. HAWKINS. - On Monday afternoon a number of Mr. T. M. HAWKINS's friends met at Mr. MAYNARD's office in Hammet-street, to bid him farewell on the occasion of his leaving to take up an appointment at South Kensington. The gathering was presided over by Mr. Charles GOODLAND, and in a few well-chosen words he asked Mr. HAWKINS to accept a purse containing £35 in gold, towards which no fewer than 75 people had subscribed, in recognition of his many and valuable services to the town. An illuminated address is also in course of preparation, and will be forwarded to Mr. HAWKINS after he has taken up his new duties.

MARY-STREET CRICKET CLUB. - Mary-street Memorial Schools were on Monday evening the scene of a very successful entertainment in aid of the Cricket Club. The concert was rendered more than ordinarily noteworthy from the fact that Mr. T. M. HAWKINS, who is leaving Taunton during the present week to take up a position in London, was making his last public appearance in the town. Mr. HAWKINS has for many years done much to entertain and amuse the public of Taunton, and it was doubtless his great popularity in this respect, and a desire on the part of many of his old friends to witness another of his performances, that drew so crowded an audience to the Mary-street Schools on Monday. The first part of the programme was of a miscellaneous character, consisting of the following items, all of which were well rendered, and much appreciated: - Pianoforte solo, “Qui Vive” Galop, Miss F. HOUSE; song, “Daisy Time,” Miss Any TVNDALE?; violin solo, “Berceuse de Jocelyn,” Miss A. STANSELL; song, Mr. J. HARE; song, Mr. A. E. SHARPE, song, “To the Front,” Mr. J. PHILPOTT; song, “Mary,” Mr. E. J. CHAPMAN; pianoforte solo, “The Mocking Bird,” Miss PHILPOTT; song, “The Honeysuckle and the Bee” (encored), Miss Amy TYNDALE. Then came what was undoubtedly the piece de resistance of the evening, a musical sketch entitled “A poem in paint,” the book and the lyrics being by Miss M. G. TROOD and the music by Mr. J. H. CHALMERS. It was in this that Mr. HAWKINS made his final appearance, and needless to add it was quite as successful as the majority of his previous public performances. The piece, which is a very clever and amusing morceau, in one act, has been produced only once before, but judging from the success it met with on Monday evening, this should not be the last by many times that it is given a place in the concert programmes of Taunton and district. The dialogue is good, and there are several very catchy songs and choruses. The characters were remarkably well presented by Misses M. G. TROOD, Rosie GOODLAND, and E. LEWIS, and Messrs. F. BARBER and T. M. HAWKINS, while the chorus consisted of Misses A. GOODLAND and STANSELL, and Messrs. F. PYM and S. GOODLAND. Mr CHALMERS acted as conductor, and also played the pianoforte accompaniments. - On the motion of the Rev. G. V. CROOK, seconded by Mr. G. PHILPOTT, a hearty vote of thanks was at the the close passed to the performers, special reference being made to the departure of Mr. T. M. HAWKINS.
