BISHOP'S HULL.

DEATH OF A CRIMEAN VETERAN.

A well-known figure in Bishop's Hull, in the person of Mr. William NEWTON, who held the distinction of being a Crimean veteran, was removed by death on Saturday, after an illness of but two days' duration. The deceased had served in the 21st Royal Fusiliers, and went through the Crimean War. He was awarded three medals, one of which had three bars for the Sebastopol [sic], Inkerman, and Alma engagements, while another was his regimental medal dated 1855. Since his retirement from the Army, over thirty years ago, Mr. NEWTON had lived at Bishop's Hull, and was well known in Taunton and the neighbourhood. A few years after leaving the Army he had the misfortune to lose his right forearm, and had been obliged to use a steel hook as a substitute. Deceased was married at Bishop's Hull, and now leaves a wife, four sons, and one daughter. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Thursday).
