IMPROVEMENT IN FORE-STREET. - A much needed improvement is being carried out in Fore-street, opposite the entrance to Corporation-street. The boundary posts at the south-west corner of the Arcades have been removed and set back several feet, with the result that the roadway here is considerably widened. On the southern side of the Arcades the cab rank has been removed, and thus a very bad projecting angle has been got rid of, and traffic from Corporation-street will be able to proceed across Fore-street and past the Market-house without having to avoid a dangerous corner. A pathway will be provided through the southern arches of both Arcades and at the back of the Market-house.

MARKET GARDENERS AND THE PARADE. - The Mayor of Taunton (Alderman A. J. SPILLER) has received a postcard asking him to use his influence with the Market Trustees to secure permission for the market gardeners who use the Taunton market on Saturdays to return to the Parade for the exhibition and sale of their goods, instead of, as according to the new arrangement, in the butchers' market. The Mayor, in common with many others in the town, is of opinion that if the market gardeners desire it, as they evidently do, they should be allowed to do so on the understanding that whatever the weather they will in future be required to remain there. This, of course, only applies to those who desire to move from their present quarters under cover, and those who do not so desire ought, in His Worship's opinion, to be allowed to remain where they are.
