SUPPOSED DEATH FROM LEAD POISONING. - An inquest was held at the Ring of Bells Inn, St. James's-street, on Friday concerning the death of Robert Charles LITTLEJOHNS, aged 27, of 58, Winchester-street, Taunton, whose death occurred on Wednesday last. Mr. D. S. WATSON (deputy-coroner, conducted the enquiry. Mr. A. G. PALMER was chosen foreman of the jury, and P.C. RANSOME acted as coroner's officer. - Robert LITTLEJOHNS, of 58, Winchester-street, a house painter, gave evidence of identification, the deceased being his son, and living with him. The deceased was unmarried, and was also a painter. He had been in bad health for the last 18 months, and had been unable owing to illness to go to work for nearly two years. When he was employed his work was of the usual character done by a painter. - Mr. A. E. JOSCELYNE, medical practitioner, of Taunton, said that he had attended the deceased for about two years. About three years ago he had occasion to examine the deceased for a friendly society, and was obliged to refuse him and warn him that he was suffering from lead poisoning. As certifying factory surgeon, he certified the the <sic> same fact to the Home Office, and had some correspondence with that Office on the subject. During the past 18 months the deceased had been obviously dying, the cause of death being a low form of meningitis, from which the man's brother and mother had also died. It was absolutely impossible to say whether the meningitis was caused by lead poisoning. He gave a certificate of death as caused by lead poisoning and meningitis. - The Deputy-Coroner pointed out that the Registrar refused to grant the ordinary certificate, which, Mr. WATSON added, was quite in accordance with his duties. - The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
