QUERIES.

315.- BEATING THE BOUNDS. - The little paragraph in a recent issue of your journal, relating to the revival of the ancient custom of “beating the bounds” at Poole (which originated in 1568), reminds me that there were towns in Somerset which also had a similar custom, in the early half of last century. Probably some of your contributors could still give many interesting details of such proceedings. - AN OLD READER.

326.- JAMES HAYES, FOUNDER OF HILLCOMMON-IN-HEATHFIELD. - James Hayes recently noted as a Somerset Worthy, is said to have died in 1875 at the age of 84. Could anyone say where he died and was buried? - ENQUIRER.

315.- BEATING THE BOUNDS. - The Rev. S. E. DODDERIDGE writes that George DODDERIDGE, who was born at Rowbarton in 1836, remembered the bounds of the parish of Norton Fitzwarren being beaten for the last time. The procession was organised by the Rector and Churchwardens, and lads and young fellows were requisitioned to swim and wade through the rivers and streams.
