THE LATE MR. H. HURFORD.

FUNERAL AT DURSTON.

Amid every manifestation of regret and sympathy the funeral took place at Durston Churchyard. Mr. HURFORD, who leaves a widow but no family, was in his 81st year, and had farmed Cutliffe for over 30 years. A yeoman farmer of the old school, he was highly-respected and well-known in West Country show-yards, where his pedigree Devons and Black Angus cattle have gained many honours. As the funeral cortege passed through the village of Sherford every blind was drawn as a last tribute of respect to deceased. At Durston Church the officiating clergymen were the Rev. K. W. P. TEALE (rector of Thurloxton) and the Rev. Claude BECKWITH (vicar of Wilton) the latter of whom performed the committal rites. The coffin was of plain oak, eight nephews of the deceased acting as bearers.

The chief mourners were:- Mrs. WARREN (sister), Messrs. George HURFORD and John HURFORD (brothers), Mrs. PRATT, Misses WARREN and FISHER (nieces), Mr A. WARREN (nephew), Mrs. J. RIGGS (sister-in-law), Mr. H. SHEPHERD (brother-in-law), Messrs. PRATT, W. C. ELLIS, W. WILLIAMS (bailiff), and Miss Sarah HAWKINS. Other relatives and friends present in the church and at the graveside included Mr. J. RIGGS, Mr. David DAY, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar DAY, Mr. and Mrs. Walter DAY, Mr. Robert PRATT, Mr. HAYMAN, Mr. S. NORTHCOTT, Mr. Oliver BOWDITCH, and Mr. Jack PHILLIPS, Messrs. James DAY, George WILLS, Sidney, Jehu, and John HABBERFIELD, Mrs. BUTT (Compton), Mrs. Florrie DAY, Mr. Frank DAY, Miss RIGGS, Miss G. SHEPHERD, Mrs. George FOSTER, and Mrs. READING.
