ILMINSTER.

CREWKERNE SILVER BAND'S VISIT. - Under the conductorship of Mr. C. W. L. PINNEY, the Crewkerne Town Silver Band paid a visit to the town on Sunday afternoon, and gave an excellent programme to a fairly large gathering. It was unfortunate that the weather was so cold, as there is no doubt under more favourable conditions a larger number would have been present. A collection was taken for the Uniform Fund.

CHURCH RESTORATION. - It is hoped that the work of repair and restoration at the Parish Church will shortly be started. The Ecclesiastical Commissioners are undertaking the repair of the chancel and east vestry, and the gift of a parishioner will make it possible for the pinnacles and battlements of the tower to be restored. This will be done in memory of the late Mr. R. T. WALTER by his widow. This generous gift is much appreciated.

JUNIOR IMPERIAL LEAGUE. - The April meeting of the Ilminster branch of the “Imps'” was held at St. Mary's Hall on Wednesday, when Miss M. SHEPHERD presided. Fifteen new members were enrolled, making a total membership of 150 for the branch. Members who attended the London rally related their experiences, each member describing a given section of the journey. Miss SHEPHERD thanked the members. Mr. G. H. FAIRS, a brother of the Assistant-Secretary to the branch, gave a lecture on “Our Parliamentary System” and afterwards answered several topical political questions. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. W. TURVILL, secaonded <sic> by Miss E. DUNSTER, and accorded in the form of a “whisper.” The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Mrs. J. H. HEXT was responsible for the refreshments.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT. - There were large audiences at the St. Mary's Hall on Thursday and Friday, when the scholars of the Parish Church Sunday School, assisted by Boy Scouts and Cubs, gave an interesting concert, which was organised by Mrs. R. Lovett TURNER, assisted by the Sunday School teachers and superintendents. The first part consisted of the acting of well-known nursery rhymes by the younger scholars. These were cleverly executed with many original touches. The Cubs were seen in a song and dance, followed by a snake dance, and the Boy Scouts gave a laughable drill scene, arranged by Mr. W. A. ASHFORD (assistant-Scoutmaster). A sea song and dance by the elder girls, arranged by Misses GOLDTHORPE and STEWART, was well received, the dancing being very lively, with excellent timing. In the second part a play was given by the members of the Girls' Club, entitled “Rebekah at the Well,” dealing with the Biblical story. The play was reverently and sympathetically presented, the right atmosphere for such a work being created. The dresses were a feature, and contributed much to the success of the play. The characters were:- Abraham, Miss Hilda COOMBES; Sarah, Miss L. SOPER; Isaac, Miss L. HARVEY; Rebekah, Miss D. HATCHER; Steward, Miss L. TROTT; Laban, Miss E. AMOR; Mother of Rebekah, Miss GOLDTHORPE; Maids at the Well, Misses OSBORNE, K. NORTH, D. HODDER, P. YARDE, I. CLAPP, and E. and K. DUNSTER. The play was arranged by Misses GOLDTHORPE and STEWART, to whom congratulations on their success were expressed. The concluding item of the programme was a tableau by the Girls' Bible Class, in which the solo. “There is a green hill,” was sung by Mrs. Walter HOSEGOOD. The stage lighting was carried out by Mr. D. G. TAYLOR, the dynamo being lent by the Wharf-lane Concrete Co. The various items were announced by Mr. E. EVANS (Sunday School superintendent).
