TAUNTON POLICE-COURT.

MOTORISTS SUMMONED.

CHEDDON MAN AND THE REFLECTOR.

WEDNESDAY. - Before the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. Howard WESTLAKE) in the chair, and Messrs. F. W. PRITCHETT BROWN, W. G. POTTER J. E. KINGSBURY and R. B. QUICK.

NO ROAD FUND LICENSE.

Samuel DAVEY, of Brooks Farm, Bickley, Tiverton, a farmer, was summoned for failing to exhibit a Road Fund license on his motor-cycle combination. Defendant did not appear, but had sent a letter to the magistrates. - P.C. PULLEN stated that on Saturday, April 20th, he was on duty in East Reach, when he had occasion to stop defendant, who was driving a motor-cycle combination. Witness found that he had no Road Fund license, and asked defendant where it was Defendant produced the license from his pocket, and on being asked why it was not on the bicycle he replied that it was not very often he drove the machine; his son usually rode it. - A fine of 10s and 2s police costs was imposed.

MOTORIST'S TWO OFFENCES.

William MORRIS, of 2, Weymouth-street, London, W.1. was summoned for driving a motor-car without a Road Fund license thereon, and for driving the same car without an offside light. - Defendant did not appear. - P.S. CHINN stated that about 2.53 a.m. on Monday 18th he was on duty in Fore-street when he saw defendant driving a motor car through Castle Bow to he <sic> back of the Castle Hotel. Witness noticed that he had no off-side light, and on examining the car found that the excise license exhibited had expired on March 31st. Asked if he he <sic> had a current license defendant said he had, and produced one dated April 3rd from his pocket. Witness asked him why it was not on the car and re replied, “As long as I have one it is all right.” Witness told him it was not and that he would be reported. - A fine of 10s in each case was imposed.

CHEDDON MAN AND THE REFLECTOR.

A fine of 10s was imposed on Joseph BURKE, an engine driver, of Gotton Lodge, Cheddon Fitzpaine, for riding a bicycle without a red rear reflector. Defendant did not appear, but had sent a letter to the magistrates. - P.C. FERMOR stated that while on duty on the South-road he stopped defendant and asked why he was riding a bicycle without a red rear reflector. He replied that he had burst a tyre on his own bicycle, and borrowed the one he was riding. He never gave it a thought to see if it had a reflector.
