NORTH PETHERTON.

ACCIDENT. - Shortly before two o'clock on Tuesday afternoon a somewhat alarming accident occurred at the turning to Park-lane, on the main Bridgwater-North Petherton road. Samuel WESTCOTT, dairyman, in the employ of Mr. S. D. LEES, of Petherton Park, was driving a motor-lorry, laden with churns, from Taunton, and when turning into Park-lane collided with a telephone pole, and ran into the ditch. Margaret WESTCOTT, aged four, his daughter, who was seated beside him on the lorry, sustained cuts to the mouth, and WESTCOTT also escaped with cuts. The lorry was badly smashed, and some of the telephone wire were brought down, a number of 'phones in the district being put temporarily out of action.

FUNERAL AT BRIDGWATER.

Much regret has been expressed throughout the village and neighbourhood at the death on Monday of Mrs. Muriel Theresa CARNE WILLIAMS, wife of Mr. George CARNE WILLIAMS, of Batts House. Aged 54 years, Mrs. CARNE WILLIAMS had for many years displayed keen interest in the social life of the village, and she had always been a generous supporter of local organisations for the welfare of the inhabitants, especially the children, many of whom were the recipients of kindly gifts from her at Christmas time. She will therefore be greatly missed, and much sympathy will be extended to the bereaved family.

The funeral took place at Bridgwater on Wednesday, the interment at the Bristol-road Cemetery being preceded by requiem mass, conducted by Father CASHMAN, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Canol? ILES??, of Taunton, officiated at the graveside, assisted by Father CASHMAN, and the family mourners were:- Mr. G. CARNE WILLIAMS (husband), Miss Phyllis CARNE WILLIAMS , Miss Daisy CARNE WILLIAMS (daughters), and Mr. J. CARNE WILLIAMS (son).

Among those also present were Mr. F. H. ALLEN, Mr. Michael N. SLADE, Mr. A. V. HEWER, Revs. P. T. Pryce MICHELL, (Huntworth), L. BUSH (Spaxton) and S. W. PAYNE (North Newton), Mrs. HAWKINS, Mrs. ADDY, Dr. G. W. Harvey BIRD, Dr. H. T. BEGGS, Dr. W. THOMPSON, Dr. G. CROMIE, Messrs. A. A. BROUGHTON, G. WHITLEY, G. W. THOMPSON, E. J. ROGERS, W. J. CHAPPELL, H. RICH, F. HARDEN, J. WARREN, E. LEES, E. WILSHIRE, and W. J. SMART.

Mrs. GRIMSHAW was at the organ during the requiem mass.

The beautiful floral tributes included wreaths from the employees of Messrs. Starkey, Knight, & Ford, Ltd., Bridgwater, the office staff, of Messrs. Starkey, Knight, & Ford, Ltd., Bridgwater, Indoor staff, and the outdoor staff at Batts House.
