DRAYTON.

SEPTUAGENARIANS' ROMANCE.

PENSIONERS MARRIED AT DRAYTON.

COUPLE WHO WENT TO SCHOOL TOGETHER.

Two septuagenarians, Mrs. Mary Anne HILL, aged 74, of Church-street, Drayton, and Mr. Jesse PALMER, aged 72, of 23, Stephen's-street, Taunton, were married at the Drayton Parish Church on Wednesday afternoon. They are both old age pensioners, and this is Mrs. HILL's third marriage, and Mr. PALMER's second. During their childhood Mr. PALMER and Mrs. HILL used to live opposite each other, and they both regularly went to school together.

When a representative of the Western Gazette called on Mrs. HILL about half-an-hour before the ceremony, he found the couple sitting in Mrs. HILL's little kitchen, finishing a meal. They were evidently very happy, and confessed to being extremely excited. Mr. PALMER, who looked a man of 50 rather than 70, was dressed for the ceremony, but Mrs. HILL, though it was less than half-an-hour before the time of the ceremony, had not as much as considered changing from her household clothes. She had spent her morning performing her domestic duties and answering the door to numerous well-wishers. Subsequently Mr. Edwin CLARK, Mrs. HILL's brother, by whom she was given away, arrived, and enquired “if she were never going to get ready,” whereupon, with a quick glance at the clock on the mantelpiece, Mrs. HILL hastened away, and returned shortly afterwards ready for her visit to church.

Neither Mr. PALMER nor Mrs. HILL have had any children.

A number of the villagers attended the ceremony, which was conducted by the Vicar (Rev. E. S. PHILLIPS). There was one bridesmaid, Miss Amy CLARK, of Ditcheat, a niece of Mrs. HILL's.
