DEATH OF MR. FREDERICK OATEN.

CO-FOUNDER OF ST. SAVIOUR'S HOME.

WELL-KNOWN TAUNTON TRADESMAN.

The death of Mr. Frederick OATEN, aged 83 years, a prominent Taunton tradesman, occurred after a short illness at his home on Saturday last.

Mr. OATEN was at one time a choirboy at St. Mary's Church and eventually became a member of the choir of Wilton Church. Educated at Russel School, Middle-street, and believed to have been the last of the boys who received their education there, he became a Sunday School teacher and superintendent at Wilton, and was also a cross-bearer at St. John's. He was one of the organisers with the Rev. ROGERS, who started the St. Saviour's Home, having the first two boys at his own house while the Home was being prepared. Mr. OATEN leaves four sons, one daughter, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He carried on in succession to his father and grandfather, a furnishing business in East Street, being in business himself for nearly fifty years.

A funeral service was held in St. Mary's Church on Thursday and the interment took place in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family mourners were Mr. E. A. OATEN, Mr. S. C. OATEN, and Mr. H. G. OATEN (sons), Mrs. MACHON (daughter), Miss K. DAGLEISH (granddaughter), and Mr. and Mrs. RIDAL (niece and husband).

Mr. E. E. WHITE, of East Reach, Taunton, was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
