THE CORFIELD HALL.”

BUILDING TO START IMMEDIATELY.

STONE-LAYING ARRANGEMENTS

At a meeting of St. Mary's Parochial Church Council on Wednesday it was decided to proceed with the erection of the new Parish Hall, and the contract was given to Mr. F. C. SPEAR, from whom the site in Magdalene-street has been purchased. Building will start forthwith.

The stone-laying ceremony has been fixed for 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 26th, and the Vicar (Rev. J. E. G. SWEETNAM) states in the “Church Magazine”:-

It would have been in accordance with the expressed wishes of all concerned that Mrs. ILES, to whose keen and practical interest in the enterprise it is largely due that it has reached its present stage, should have been able to lay the foundation stone. As, how ever, she does not feel equal to the strain, we have been able to arrange for her son, Dr. ILES, to preform the ceremony in her name, which will be inscribed upon the stone, and thus provide a permanent record of her long-continued interest and help.

INSCRIBED BRICKS.

A number of initials have been sent to the the makers for inscription on separate bricks to be laid by donors of 10s or more, but we hope a number of others donors will come forward between now and July 26th, so that we can arrange for them to lay plain bricks, it being now too late to have any more initials inscribed. We hope there will be a really good attendance of Church-people on this occasion, when we see the commencement of an undertaking which must mean much for the future of our parish, and marks the first practical step towards the realisation of a hope which, through circumstances over which we have no control, has been long delayed.

In addition to the bricks to be laid by individuals, we have also ordered a number inscribed with the name of each of o--? parochial organisations, and we ask those responsible to arrange a collection among the members, and for a representative to lay the brick in the name of the organisation concerned. The following are the organisations for which inscribed bricks have been ordered. - Church Council, sidesmen, choir, ringers, servers, Mothers' Union, Sewing Guild, Sanctuary Guild, Fellowship, Junior Church, Sunday Schools, Day Schools, magazine distributors, Thrift Club, Guides, and Brownies.

OPENING BY HON. MRS. CORFIELD.

At a recent meeting of the Council the above arrangements were approved, and it was further decided that the hall should be named 'The Corfield Hall,' a stone bearing that title to be placed over the entrance: that the Hon. Mrs. CORFIELD be invited to perform the opening ceremony: and that a tablet be placed inside the building, stating that it had been erected to the memory of the late Preb. C. L. CORFIELD.”

We understand that Mrs. CORFIELD has accepted the invitation to open the hall.
