LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

<section not transcribed>

A most distressing accident occurred on Saturday week, at the works of the Somersetshire County Lunatic Asylum. A very large blast was about to be made, and all the workmen were ordered to place themselves under cover of the kitchen, at the back of the building, about sixty yards distant from the spot. One man named MARTIN, who was working at a distance of about forty yards, neglected to do so, and a fragment of the rock, weighing about twenty pounds, pitched directly on his head, and carried away part of the skull, leaving a portion of the poor fellow's brains exposed. T. PURNELL, Esq., surgeon, was promptly on the spot, but every exertion proved unavailing, and the unfortunate man died within two hours from time of the accident. We are sorry to add that he has left a widow and five children to deplore their loss.
