NORTH PETHERTON.

SUICIDE OF A POSTMAN. - A good deal of painful excitement has been created at North Petherton by the discovery in a pond there of the body of a married man named William ASH, who for a considerable period had been the local postman, and also in charge of the mail cart between Bridgwater and North Petherton, under circumstances which leave no room for doubt that he committed suicide. It appears that the deceased, who was much respected, some time ago had a severe attack of influenza, from which he never apparently quite recovered, and he suffered from depression in consequence. He was last seen alive by his stepfather (Mr. DIBBLE), who saw him sitting on a stile at Parkersfield, and on being questioned he said he was taking a little fresh air. It would have been his duty soon afterwards to have started with the mail cart, but at the appointed time he did not put in an appearance, and as he could not be found, the services of another man had to be requisitioned for the purpose. A search was afterwards instituted for the deceased, with the result that his dead body was found in a deep pond of water, near where he was last seen, whilst close by his hat was found containing two sovereigns and his watch and chain. The body was removed to North Petherton, of which place deceased was a native.
