SOUTH PETHERTON.

CYCLE ACCIDENT. - On Friday evening, as Mr Theo RICHARDS was descending Silver Street Hill he accidentally knocked down a girl, aged 10, daughter of Mr John ROWSELL. At the time it was feared that the child had received serious injury, but on careful examination it was found that somewhat extensive bruises about the body was the extent of the injuries.

SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS STUDLEY. - It is with regret we record the death of Mrs Theresa STUDLEY, of S. James' Street, which occurred suddenly on Sunday evening last. The deceased lady had been a regular attendant at the Congregational Church for many years, and shortly after the commencement of the service on Sunday evening she was taken ill. Dr. GOMEZ was immediately in attendance and she was conveyed to her home, where shortly afterwards she expired. The deceased was well-known in the town, and much sympathy is felt for the members of the family. The funeral takes place to-day (Thursday).

A BUILDER'S FAILURE. - At the Yeovil Bankruptcy Court on Thursday, before the registrar (Mr H. B. BATTEN), John ROWSELL, a builder, of South Petherton, appeared for his public examinations. - Questioned by Mr Tilney(?) BARTON (official receiver), debtor stated that he started business about 12 months ago with a capital of about £10. Prior to that he had been a journeyman, working at the same place, and part of the premises were used as a blacksmith's shop by his son. He did not know he was insolvent until July, and he then consulted Mr POOLE, who called a meeting of his creditors, as a result of which a deed of assignment was made, and his stock-in-trade sold. His stock-in-trade at South Petherton was sold to his son for £6 16s 6d, having previously been valued, while the plant at Somerton was sold by auction. He entered into a contract with the Crewkerne United Breweries Company to build a public-house at Somerton for £1,200, and there were extras which brought the total up to £1,339 19s 6d. Almost all the money he received was paid into the bank. When he commenced that contract Mr HOOKE went to the bank and became guarantee for £100. - After further questions debtor was allowed to pass. - Debtor's statement of affairs showed gross liabilities amounting to £521 16s 11d, expected to rank £510 16s 11d, and a deficiency of £353 14s 3d.
