EAST LAMBROOK.
THE LATE LANCE-CORPL. WALDEN. - Mr Joseph WALDEN, of Willow Cottage, has received the following letter from Lord KITCHENER:- “The King commands me to assure you of the true sympathy of His Majesty and the Queen in your sorrow.” A similar letter has also been received from Major-General Sam HUGHES, Minister of Militia and Defence for Canada. Mrs M. E. OATEN, Middle Lambrook, sister of the deceased soldier, has received a letter from Sergt. A. E. CORDERY, No. 1 Company, P.P.C.L.I., in which he was serving at the time of his death. He writes:- “Dear Madam, - I am writing to you to inform you of the death of your brother . . . . He was a brave soldier and was always willing to help others. He was a man that any woman would admire as a brother and any man as a friend. He was wounded by shrapnel and died in hospital. I believe it was his wish that I should write you. I feel deeply his loss, and I may say his comrades share my feelings.
