HAMBRIDGE.

FETE AND SALE OF WORK. - On the 16th last, a successful fete and sale of work were held at Hambridge, in aid of the fund for the restoration of the Parish Church of St. James the Less. The sale of work was held in a field opposite the Vicarage, and the various stalls were set out under cover of a spacious marquee. The weather was unfortunately very unfavourable. Despite the unpropitious weather there was a good company present at the opening ceremony, which was preformed by the Lady Mary de SALIS, the wife of the Bishop of Taunton, who was introduced by the Vicar of Hambridge, the Rev. A. J. HOOK. The usual thanks were accorded. Master Reggie POPE, a tiny tot, presented her ladyship with a lovely bouquet of charming flowers. The stallholders were:- New clothes, stall 1, Miss LAWRENCE, Miss BARNARD, and Mrs TROLLOPE; stall 2, Mrs DUDMAN, Mrs A. PAULL, Mrs HOLBOROUGH, and Mrs HOLBROOK; fancy, Mrs Henley MUNDEN and Miss A. C. HART-DAVIS; soap, scent and china, Mrs SOAMES and Miss GOODE; dairy and food, &c., Miss TEMPLEMAN and Mrs J. REE; sweets, Mrs HOLLOWAY; brown paper and parcels, &c., Mrs J. LANG and Miss Violet LANG; handkerchiefs, Miss HOOK. At five p.m. there was a jumble sale, which did a very brisk trade. - Mr. F. A. BARBER's Taunton Concert Party gave capital concerts on a stage set up on the Vicarage lawn. The company was assisted by the Langport Instrumental Quintette. Morris and country dances were daintly executed by prettily-attired dancers, who had been very ably trained by the Rev A. J. HOOK, and folk songs were sung by the Rev. G. F. C. PEPPIN. In addition to the above-mentioned features, there were also other attractions, including houp-la, skittles, “Kaiser Bill,” guessing competition, &c. During the afternoon teas and refreshments were provided. In the evening the Barrington Brass Band played for dancing. The event was organised by the Vicar (the Rev A. J. HOOK) and the Men's and Ladies' Committee. The secretarial duties were ably carried out by the Vicar.
