SEAVINGTON ST. MICHAEL.
CHURCH MISSIONARY SOCIETY. - On Sunday morning, September 4th, the Rev. Henry STREETEN, Association Secretary, preached in the parish church from Proverbs xi., 30, “He that winneth souls is wise,” and ably advocated the claims of the Society, the offertory on behalf of which amounted to £2 19s 9d.
LOST AND FOUND. - On Thursday se'nnight, a valuable pony and cart belonging to Mr. J. C. HILLIARD, of this place, disappeared in a most unaccountable manner from outside the residence of Mr. James JEANS at South Petherton, whither it had been driven by Mr. George JEANS, of London, with his nephew, Master S. HILLIARD. Notwithstanding that the police were communicated with, the country scoured in all directions, and every exertion made, no tidings of the lost property were heard of until Friday night, when it turned out that a hay-trusser, hailing from Sherborne or Dorchester, had given them up to the Yeovil police authorities during the day, stating that he had found them the previous night at Stoke-under-Ham. On the pony and trap being taken to the Half Moon Inn for safe custody, the landlord knew at once to whom they belonged, as Mr. HILLIARD makes that hotel his head-quarters when attending Yeovil market.
