THE LATE MR. BEN WAKELY

WELL-KNOWN FARMER AND DEALER

FUNERAL AT SHEPTON BEAUCHAMP

The death took place on Wednesday week after a long illness of Mr. Ben John Cox WAKELY, of Fouts Farm, South Petherton, aged 73 years. A native of the Beaminster district, he came to live at South Petherton soon after his marriage, and had lived at Fouts Farm for the past 19 years. He was a well-known farmer and dealer prior to his retirement about nine months ago, and was a familiar figure in the Yeovil, Sherborne, Taunton, Chard, Ilminster, and other Somerset and Dorset markets. He leaves a widow and a family of six sons and six daughters.

The funeral service at Shepton Beauchamp on Saturday was conducted by the Rector (the Rev. F. B. TAYLOR), and Miss Sybil ROWSWELL was at the organ for the hymns, “Praise the soul, the King of Heaven,” and “Rock of Ages.”

Harold and John MANLEY, Fouts (grand-children); Mr. John WAKELY (brother), and Mr. Jack WAKELY (nephew), of Selsey, Sussex; Mrs. COOMBES, Dorchester (sister), Mr. Will HARDING, Dorchester (nephew), Mr. George ALLEN, Shepton Beauchamp (brother-in-law), Mrs. Ernest ALLEN, Shepton Beauchamp, and Mrs. ASH, Seavington (nieces); Mr. Arthur DAY, Hinton St. George, Mr. Stanley OATEN, Bristol, and Mr. F. GIBBS, South Petherton (friends). Mrs. WAKELY (widow), and Mrs. Queenie GRAYSON, London (daughter) were unable to attend owing to indisposition.

POND, and Miss D. GRAY.

The bearers were:- Messrs. Tom and Ed. ENGLAND, and Fred MARTIN (nephews), and Leonard WELCH.

Mrs. WAKELY and family wish to thank friends for messages of sympathy in their sad bereavement, also for the beautiful floral tributes.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. D. WELCH & Sons, undertakers, Shepton Beauchamp.
