Widespread Flooding in Taunton Area

In widespread flooding on Monday night, the Taunton area was particularly affected. Somerset Fire Brigade answered over 20 calls to flooded premises.

Staplegrove Road was under water from French Weir to Elms Parade and a number of premises were invaded. Part of the Odeon Cinema was flooded as far as the fourth row of the stalls and carpeting in the stalls was damaged. Taunton Fire Brigade was called to deal with water in the cellar of the Cherry Grove Inn. Cellars were flooded at the Ship Inn and Royal Victoria at Wellington and houses at Rockwell Green. Manhole covers were lifted in Wellington Road, Taunton, and Cheddon Road, and Station Road were affected.

At Combe Florey, cottages were flooded and part of the main road, where road widening is being carried out, was covered by deep mud. The road was closed and traffic diverted.
