UNDEFENDED DIVORCE CASES IN BRISTOL

Decrees Granted at Assize

HEAVY LIST

THE three Bristol Assize Courts yesterday were confined to the hearing of divorce cases.

The following undefended cases were heard before Mr Justice MORRIS, who granted decrees nisi in each case:-

Reginald Neville TAYLOR, of Grange Avenue, Hanham, against his wife, Eva M. TAYLOR, on the grounds of misconduct. Married 1932. A Mr DENHAM was cited as co-respondent, against whom costs and damages amounting to £150 were granted.

Brian Malcolm DRAKE, 46, Upper Belgrave Road, Clifton, Bristol, against his wife, Jean Lilian DRAKE. Desertion. Married at Harrogate, where the parties lived till they went to Oakhampton.

Andrew Thomas CHAMPION, of 114, Grove Leaze, Shirehampton, against his wife, Dorothy Alice CHAMPION, on the grounds of desertion. Married in 1940.

Frances Newton HUNT, Newhurst, Walkley Hill, Rodborough, Stroud, against her husband, Mr. F. A. M. HUNT. Misconduct was alleged when the respondent stayed at a boarding house in Weymouth. Married in 1940.

Edward Henry PEARCE, of 15, Collingwood Road, Redland, Bristol, against his wife, Lilian Florence PEARCE. Desertion. Married in 1934, and they lived at Little Somerford, Wilts. Petitioner granted custody of child.

KENT DECREE

Arthur Guy VERCOE, of 59, Elway Road, Beckenham Kent, against his wife, Vera Gertrude VERCOE. Misconduct. Married at Bristol Register Office. It was alleged that the respondent stayed with a Lieut. TAYLOR, the named co-respondent, at a hotel in Bangor, North Wales. Costs against co-respondent.

Clarice Mary RODWAY, of 44, Freemantle Road, Eastville, Bristol, against her husband, William James RODWAY. Desertion. Married in 1940, and they lived at Cottrell Road and Greenbank Road, Bristol, before the respondent, against whom costs were granted, left.

Agnes Florence BISS, of The Follies, Marsh Lane, Yeovil, against her husband, Francis Harold BISS. Misconduct. Married at Thanet, Kent, and lived first at Salisbury. With costs against respondent.

Henry Joseph CLARK, 12, Church Avenue, Warmley, against his wife, Joyce E. CLARK. Misconduct. Married in 1941. It was alleged that the respondent stayed with a Mr John HILLIER, an officer in the R.A.F., at a hotel in Swindon. Costs against respondent.

Archibald Guy LITTLE, of 109, Holly Lane, Erdington, Birmingham, against his wife. Desertion. The respondent at one time lived at the Greyhound Hotel, Bristol. Married in 1918, when the petitioner was an officer in the Somerset Yeomanry.

Francis Walter KENT, 43, Armscroft Road, Barnwood, Gloucestershire, against his wife, Gladys May. Misconduct. Married in 1942. The named co-respondent, Thomas G. MALLET gave evidence.

CUSTODY OF CHILD

Iris Sadie WEEKS, of 135, Pen Park Road, Southmead, Bristol, against her husband, James WEEKS. Misconduct. Married in 1935. Custody of child to petitioner and costs against respondent.

Mary Adela BURNS, of The Priory Hotel, Portbury, Somerset, against her husband, on the grounds of cruelty. Married at the Register Office, Kingswood, and they lived first at Pleasant Road, Staple Hill. Custody of child to petitioner and costs against respondent.

Emily Elizabeth MILLARD, of 118, Stapleton Road, Bristol, against her husband, George Samuel MILLARD. Misconduct was alleged with a woman at a boarding house in Bath. Married at Bristol Register Office. Costs against respondent.

Sidney George PETERS, of 65, Station Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol, against his wife, Hilda Mildred PETERS. Misconduct. The parties were married in 1931 and lived at various addresses, including Staple Hill. A Mr H. W. WILLIAMS was named as co-respondent.

Kate Newman DAVENPORT, of 12, Hopton Street, Weston-super-Mare, against her husband, Mr W. DAVENPORT. Desertion. Married at Weston-super-Mare in 1942. Costs against the respondent.

Daisy Beatrice DYER, of 1, Whitefield Road, St. George, Bristol, against her husband. Herbert William DYER. Misconduct. Married in 1914. There were four children, all now over 21 years of age. Respondent had been a member of the Forces for 28 years.

BATH CASES

Albert William Frank AUTON, of 41, West Avenue, Bath, against his wife, Eileen M. AUTON. Misconduct. Married in 1938. The parties lived at Oldfield, Bath, till petitioner joined the R.A.F. Mr Henry James HARVEY, cited as co-respondent, gave evidence.

Mr K. G. CASS, The Gables, Yeomede Park, Bath, against his wife. Desertion. Married in 1941, and afterwards lived at Old Bond Street, Bath.

Albert Edward SNOOK, of 3, Lark Place, Bath, against his wife. Misconduct. Married in 1931, and they lived at Englishcombe Lane, Bath. Mr Charles PARADISE was named as co-respondent, against whom costs were granted.

Ernest Redvers GLASS, of Holloway, Bath, against his wife, Hilda Louise GLASS. Desertion.

Ivy Doris BREWER, of 49, West Avenue, Oldfield Park, Bath, against her husband, Reginald James BREWER. Misconduct. Married in 1937. Petitioner custody of child.. Costs against the respondent.

Arthur Edward Allen ROBERTSON, 1, Daniel Street, Bath, against his wife. Desertion. Married in 1923. It was alleged that respondent, becoming independent in means, decided to go her own way.

Mary Josephine WILLIAMS, of 9, Charlotte Street, Bath, against her husband, Jack Leslie WILLIAMS. Cruelty. Married in 1940.

Charles Joseph John HOPE, of 2, Millbrook Place, Widcombe, Bath, against his wife, Dorothy J. HOPE. Misconduct. Married 1939. The co-respondent named was Corporal Leslie ROODE.

Edith Eliza SHEPPARD, of Green Lane, Hinton Charterhouse, near Bath, against her husband, John Albert W. SHEPPARD. Desertion. Married in 1938.

DISCRETION EXERCISED

In the following cases the petitioners asked the Judge to exercise his discretion, which he did:-

Arthur GRANGER, of 11, Pulteney Avenue, Bath, against his wife, Mary G. GRANGER. Married in 1919, and they lived at Chippenham.

Henry Alfred SANDERS, of 57, Langton Road, Brislington, Bristol, against his wife, Gladys Mabel SANDERS. Misconduct. Married in 1928.

Mrs Kathleen BUTLER, of 10, North Road, Bishopston, Bristol, against her husband, Frederick. Misconduct. Married 1934. Discretion of the Court granted.

Mrs Phyllis Mabel FLETCHER, 39, Gaston Road, Malmesbury, against her husband, Alec William Reginald. Married 1939. Discretion of the Court granted.

Mrs Gwendoline Beatrice WALKER, of Toldpedn, Milborne Port, Sherborne, Dorset, against her husband. Misconduct. Married 1937.

Alan Arthur LEE, 2, York Road, Easton, against his wife, Lilian Mary. Misconduct.

George William CLISSOLD, R.A., against his wife, Hazel Ruth CLISSOLD, of Filton Avenue, Horfield. Misconduct.

Arthur Edgar Cook WEBB, of 13, Waverley Street, Warwick Road, Bristol, against his wife, Winifred Emily. Misconduct.

£150 DAMAGES

Before Mr Commissioner R. Bush JAMES, K.C.:-

Bernard Richard LUCAS of the Half Moon Inn, Mudford, near Yeovil, against his wife, Vera Mary. Misconduct. Married 1937. Petitioner awarded £150 agreed damages against Co-respondent named KIDDLE.

Thomas Jack RICHARDS of Prospect Farm, Beanacre, near Melksham, Wilts., against his wife Edna May. Misconduct. Married 1942.

Olive Beryl SPENCER, of Rosemary, Halstock, near Yeovil, against her husband, Thomas Henry. Misconduct. Married 1935.

Phyllis Priscilla TOLLER, of 70, Eastleigh Road, Taunton, against her husband, Frank, now of Hull. Misconduct.

Winifred Rose WRIGHT, of High(?) Street, Rowde, Devizes, agaist her husband John Charles. Misconduct. Married 1938.

PETITION DISMISSED

Foolish she has been, but adulterous never!” With these words yesterday at Bristol Assize Mr Commissioner R. Bush JAMES, dismissed the petition for divorce of Albert William MORSE, of 4, Albert Street, Swindon, against his wife.

Mrs Dorothy Muriel MORSE, respondent, denied the allegation of misconduct, and the case was defended.

The alleged misconduct of Mrs. MORSE, said Mr Commissioner JAMES, was said to have occurred at 54, Curtis Street, Swindon, in June, 1941, with the co-respondent, a man named DUFF. The husband, the petitioner, was abroad at the time, from 1940-1945.

Mrs THOMAS, the proprietress of 54, Curtis Street, Swindon, had declared that she had seen an incident, but they had to remember that this alleged incident had happened five years ago.
