Nothing is known about Simeon & his family until the 1800 census shows them in Mexico, Oneida, NY. Their entry is 11010 10010 which fits Simeon, Sarah, John, and a boy and girl under 10.6 In 1798/99 Simeon bought property in Scriba's Patent, which was on Lake Ontario in New York state. (In 1790, George Scriba, a wealthy, German-born merchant of N. Y. City purchased 500,000 acres of land lying between Lakes Oneida and Ontario. This purchase was known as Scriba's Patent where he hoped to develop a commercial empire to control the trade between the Atlantic seaboard and the Great Lakes, Canada, and the West (foreshadowing of the Erie Canal). In 1794,a settlement was started but the location was unhealthy and it was estimated that half of those who had settled in the town during its first twenty years died from the prevalent fevers, dysentery, and cholera. There was active trading on Lake Ontario for some years and it appeared that Scriba's settlement might rival Oswego, the most important lake port. The growth of this region was seriously retarded by the War of 1812 though and then history passed it by. Scriba lost most of his vast fortune in his endeavor.) Simeon lost his wife in Scriba's Patent and probably two of his children and then moved on to PA with his surviving son, John.7 Simeon registered to pay taxes in Tioga, Tioga, PA in 1812.8 He, 56, married Achsah Rose, 27, on 13 Oct 1813 at Sullivan, Tioga, PA.9 The 1820 census in Sullivan, Tioga Co, PA for Simeon King shows 300001 10010 which fits Simeon, Achsah, Albert, Fidelia, Alvah, & Alpheus.10 The 1840 census of Springfield, Bradford, PA shows Simeon as the 80-90 year old man in the household of his daughter & son-in-law, Alvin & Fidelia Parmenter.6 He died on 23 Jun 1844 at Springfield, Bradford, PA, at age 87.9 He was buried at King Hill Cem., Sullivan, Tioga, PA.8 |

Of Conway. Susannah Look married Samuel Payne, 31, son of Joseph Ruggles Payne and Mehitable Giddings, on 13 Sep 1795 at Ashfield, Franklin, MA; int. pub. Conway 13 Sep 1795.2 The daughter Susanna is not the one who married as her second husband Oliver Hines. I think Oliver Hines married Susanna (Look) Paine, the widow of Samuel Paine, brother to Susanna Paine. The marriage record in Ashfield says that Alverson/Oliver Hines/Hinds of Buckland married Susanna Paine, WIDOW 19 Dec 1797. I have not found a death record for Samuel Paine, but if he was living in Buckland when he died, then the record is probably lost, as all the records in Buckland burned in 1875, making research there very difficult. The vital records of Conway Ma. p. 191 says that Josiah Tinney and Susannah Hinds, WIDOW, filed intentions to marry 17 Jan 1813. The History of Martha's Vineyard identifies Susanna Look's husband as a Tinney. The local Greenfield, Ma newspaper, Gazette and Mercury, 29 Aug 1837 p. 3 says: In North Adams, 4 Aug, Mr. Josiah Tinney, Revolutionary War Soldier, age 77. I have a note that Susanna (Look) Tinney died 22 June 1854, I have it marked that I got it from the newspaper, but now can not give you the exact reference. She is listed in the 1850 Census of Adams, Ma in the household of her son Peter Tenney. P. 53 line17 HH# 595/595.3 She married Olverson Hines of Buckland on 19 Dec 1797 at Ashfield, Franklin, MA; Olverson Hines of Buckland m.
