Avarilla Clays Will
In the name of God Amen I Avarilla Clay of the County of Amelia
& State of Virginia doth make constitute and ordain this my last will and testament in
Manner and form following Viz:
1st I give unto Sally T A Southall the whole of my estate of every description
2nd In the event of the death of Sally T A Southall before she arrives at lawful age or
before marriage I give the same to Gervis Southall
3rd I appoint my friend Richard Clay my Executor to this my last will and testament. Given
under my hand and seal this 5th day of July 1861

In Amelia County Court 22nd March 1866
This the last will and testament of Avarilla Clay decd was this day proven in Court by the oathes [sic] of James H. Clay and E. H. Allen two subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. On motion of R. E. Clay, the Executor named in said will he is permitted to qualify thereupon he took the oath required by law and entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $600. conditioned according to Law with James H. Clay his security who made oath as to his sufficiency Certificate is granted said Exer for obtaining a probate of said will
