    According to Mary Anne Shepherd in her book, John Whitcomb and Frances Coggin -- 350 Years Later, published in 1981, the lineage of the Whitcomb family is documented only from the time of Henry IV (1399-1413). There are some references of the family pre- dating the Norman Conquest, and a few colleratal lines are traceable to the ninth century.  The information of the descendants of this Thomas is obtained from the above referenced book and from Ancestoral Files of the Family History Library, The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah.  No independent verification of this information has been made.
