Records
Below are Returns of the 1st Regiment of the Hastings Militia created in 1812-14. Returns
normally list the officers and the number of men under their command.
Rolls differ in that they list the men (privates) under the command of
a Captain. In this case, two of the Returns do list the names of privates.
Note that the deaths of Capt Samuel Birdsey Gilbert and Lieut Joseph Le Moine are noted in the later returns.

17 May 1812 - Return of Officers and men who volunteered for actual service [Hastings Militia]

Sir: I have the honor to acquaint you, that at a
company meeting of Four Companies of the battalion of militia of the
County of Hastings, the undermentioned Officers and Men formed out?
Volunteers, to serve under such Orders and Directions, as it may Please
His Excellency Major General Brock to direct: they are all sufficiently
near to the usual ?? of readyness here, for being exercised, as often
as His Excellency may deem proper.

handed to me. If it is not presuming in me I would take the liberty,
should His Excellency be pleased to accept of them to recommend
Captains McIntosh and Meyers ??? ??? To command the men.

transcribed but it typically is about 24 men. Abbreviated names are
recorded in full (Wm = William) to aid in digital searching.
