NOTES: ROSE HISTORY The History of the Roses of Kilravock was printed for the 1970 Gathering held at Kilravock and written by Elizabeth Rose of Kilravock. Googling will find much as well. Janet Clunis GRAVESTONE Her tombstone is hard to read. The 1795 could be 1805 but this makes little sense as John Rose married Henrietta in 1796. That is why 1795 is stated as her death date. "Sacred to the memory of Janet Clunis, spouse of John Rose, gillie, at Holm, who died 17 Oct 1795, aged 20 years - also to the memory of Henrietta Rose, second wife, who died aged 55 years. She was a women of exception, pious and her death much regretted by her friends and aquaintances (sic)." Note: A 'gillie' is a professional fishing and hunting guide. Source: Croy Cemetery, recorded by Jean Bannerman, visit 1969. Second recording of info. The gravestone there reads -- Sacred to the memory of Janet Clunas, spouse to John Rose, Ghillie at Holm, who died the 17th Oct ???? aged 20 years Also to the Memory of Henrietta Rose his second wife who died ????aged 55 years. She was a woman of exception pious and her death much regretted by her friends and acquaintances.
