Civil War colors

An American family torn asunder,
Father against sons, brother against brother,
A bitter fight upon our land,
To live, to die, to take a stand,
Waiting to see what's in store
For a family caught up in the Civil War.

The following Civil War veterans were all Sentelle brothers,
and the sons of Richard "Grandsire Dick" Sentelle,
who fought in the War of 1812 himself.

According to Sam Sentell's information on "Grandsire Dick",
"In politics he [Richard] was a Republican of the strongest type.
In the war he was a Union man, and never had any sympathy with
the Confederacy.  He looked on slavery as one of the worst evils in all the world."

These sons served on different sides of the war,
each believing their cause was right.

Solomon D. Osteen, brother to Luke Osteen,
and a first cousin to these men,
married their sister, Joyce Sentelle.

John Luke Osteen, brother to Solomon D. Osteen,
and a first cousin to these men,
married their sister, Priscilla D. Sentelle.

John Boone Huggins married their sister, Sarah Naomi Sentelle.

Francis Marion Sentelle was a nephew to these men,
the son of their brother, Samuel B. Sentelle.
