    JERSEYVILLE -- Donald William Scoggins, 70, died at 9:47 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

    Born May 29, 1931, in Jersey County, he was a son of the late John B. and Thelma (Allen) Scoggins.

    Formerly an insulator at Shell Oil Co., he worked out of the Jerseyville Union Hall for several years before becoming a welder fitter mechanic at Louisiana Dock Co. in St. Louis from 1973 to 1993, retiring after nearly 20 years of service.

    A U.S. Navy Korean War veteran, he was also a member of Boilermakers Local 482, a union steward, as well as past president of his union from 1984 to 1989.

    Surviving are four children and their spouses, Donna and Tom Baze and Kathy and Vernon Lux, all of Jerseyville, Brenda and Denny Larner of Godfrey and Bill and Cheryl Scoggins of Jerseyville; 10grandchildren; two stepsons, William VanHoose of Jerseyville and Mike VanHoose of Kane; a brother, Robert Scoggins of Jerseyville; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Junior Crouse of Jacksonville; a brother-in-law, Eddie Kallal of Union, Mo; and his former wife, mother of his children and special friend, Betty Whitley of Jerseyville.

    Preceding him in death were a brother and sister-in-law, Rollin and Gracie Scoggins, and two sisters, Norma Jean Scoggins and Lora Mae Kallal.

    Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. A. J. Maggos will officiate.

    Burial will be at Kane Cemetery, with full military graveside rites conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 4528.

    Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited.3
